Will Instant On Notebooks be a success?

Have you ever wanted to boot into windows quick just to do a basic task? If the answer is yes, then this’ll be just for you. Dell have looked at a new state of the

art technology, which they call “Instant On”. Instant on will allow you to do basic tasks, like browse the internet, without booting into windows. This is so quick, it really is almost instant. Boots up in almost the blink of an eye, literally. This will come in handy for a lot of people if you are on the train, going to a couple of stops away, then you want to boot up fast and it also shuts down at the same speed. Instant On isn’t a new feature to the market. Dell Latitude ON is similar to ExpressGate by ASUS like Voodoo’s IOS technologies which are powered by Splashtop. The feature, which will be called Dell Latitude ON will be shipped with the E4200 and the E4300. It will have a Linux based interface with attachments, calender, Contacts (These are going to be Cloud Computing-based since you won’t want to enter the same information more than once) and a web browser and you never have to boot into windows again. The only circumstances that you’d need to boot into windows would probably be to play a game, or use a rich content program (i.e Dreamweaver) or to copy over files from the digi-cam etc. The good news is that the battery life will be increased by hours or even days. Cool.
